Mix and Match Texture –

Think velvet next to burlap. Gold metal and worn wood. Chunky knits and sleek lines. Fall 2018 is all about mixing the unexpected when it comes to materials and patterns. Bold graphic patterns can be the accent piece of the season whether you do so with oversized florals on the wallpaper, or a large graphic design on an area rug. If you would rather experiment with patterns before diving in, think about throw pillows or draped blankets as a way to test the waters!

Artisan Accessories-

Shop local, find an artist, or peruse flea markets to find pieces that were made by hand. Finding a footstool carved from a live-edge slab or a ceramic bowl thrown in the hands of an artist will add an incredibly warm touch to your fall decor. Find a vintage quilt or kitchen utensil and add it to the mix for visual interest and a conversation piece as well!

Bold Color Choices-

Whether it be solid navy, or retro inspired dusty rose, color is the key to a beautiful fall display. Select one or two accent colors that “play well” with one another and pile them up. These can be mixed and matched during other seasons to get the most use out of them. While an overflow of exotic hues is amazing, you may actually be bold in layered neutrals. Selecting items from the same hue (white on white, oatmeal stacked on oatmeal) has a tremendous impact as well.
